  • Parking Lot near the Visitor Center (39.89231,-75.25722)

5 miles. We will meet at 9:30 am at the parking lot near the Visitor Center (39.89231,-75.25722). There is a Septa Regional Rail stop at Eastwick Station, a 1.1 mile walk away, with a scheduled stop at 9:10 am. The John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge is the largest such refuge entirely within any city limits. We will hike about 5 miles in a loop from the Visitor’s Center, featuring the impoundment that affords views of the city skyline and lots of waterfowl. This is not a birdwatch hike, but we will occasionally pause to watch the wildlife. This is a flat, level hike with generally good trail but some muddy sections are possible. A mask is required and is to be worn when social distance cannot be maintained. RSVP is required: https://www.meetup.com/Batona-Hiking-Club/ or call leader. Cost: $1.00. Leader: Gary Sawyer, 484-478-2607, muddyboots@comcast.net.
