10 miles. From Little Gap, hike a 10 mile loop that follows the "new" AT along a rolling, grassy trail just a hundred feet or so below the ridgeline. This reroute was put in while the "old" AT was undergoing EPA superfund remediation. The old AT became an access road, which now serves as a nice return loop on the mountain. This is one of the few sections of AT to have views, with Palmerton below. Possible berry picking, too. Meet in parking lot at north end of Plymouth Meeting Mall off Germantown Ave, near SEPTA Transportation Center at 9:00 AM. If carpooling up the Turnpike to Little Gap (68 miles to trailhead) please share tolls, $10 per car round trip. Hiking boots recommended. Bring lunch and water. Cost $1.00.
