16-17 miles. Depart at 8:30 AM from the corner of 16th & JFK Blvd., outside the Suburban Station building. We finish at Germantown and Rex in Chestnut Hill between 4:30 and 5:00 pm. Hikers may park and take the Chestnut Hill West train into the city to start the hike or return to Center City by train at the end of the hike. This is a classic, traditional Batona winter hike. We traverse Fairmount Park and walk on remote trails within the largest city park in the world. Terrain is level to hilly and rocky. For those who are interested, there will be a stop at a local Chestnut Hill brew pub following the hike. Hiking boots recommended. Ice or heavily accumulating snow cancels. Cost: $1.00 plus train fare. Leader: Bruce Melgary, 215-498-0472, bmelgary@gmail.com.
